Language-Learning Strategy

Daily Steps towards Fluency

Our language-learning strategy is drawn from the work of Dr. Conning's Keys to Japanese: we study new material (vocab and grammar), we read sentences using that material, and we review previous material: both recent material and material further back (Near and Far Review, respectively).

As our goal in language-learning is fluency in a language, not simply learning vocabulary or grammar rules, the progression of our study program is ordered towards reading more as we learn more. So even though we'll slow down in the number of raw entries we process, we'll be reading far more sentences and growing much closer to fluency as we do so.

For users who prefer to study a certain number of entries every day, they are grouped together, making it easy to view and click them all together. You can change the number of entries per group as well, under the "Entries per Group" box.

This is currently detailed for Japanese learning, using the Kodansha Kanji Learner's Course, the Dictionaries of Japanese Grammar, and the KLC Graded Reading Sets. However, this same approach works for language-learning in general, so this same tracker can be used for other languages as well. Custom support for more languages may be added in the future, but for now, only Japanese detailed herein is explicitly tracked.
